On January 2, 2017 I launched this blog, an I was on fire!!! I owed eighty-two thousand five hundred and two dollars and fifty-one cents… yes $82,502.51!!! As of today, July 5, 2017 I still owe $75,321.68. Which means I’ve paid off $7,180.83 in six months. The goal by the end of 2017 is to half the debt (~$41,252), and unfortunately I’m not on track to reaching that goal like I thought.
Normally with this type of uphill battle one would say it’s not going to happen, you’re a single mom just forget about it. I even purchased a cruise with friends last year before I got 100% focused on getting out of debt, and that’s coming up at the end of the month 😩. Not to mention all the repairs that keep coming up with the house (the joys of homeownership lol). This mid year review definitely has me thinking outside the box on what I can do better to speed up this progress. I’m by no means perfect. I will however, always be real and upfront with you guys about my decisions. Here are three strategies I’ll be using to accomplish my goals.
1. Sell as much as I can to have spending money for my trip. Hindsight is always 20/20. Today if a friend asked me to take a trip I would have to politely decline. The bright side to everything is I paid cash over 8 months so I don’t owe any more money towards that trip. When everything is said and done that could have been $1800 that went towards my debt.
2. Trim down my food budget. I have cut back tremendously on where I was however my goal is to cut it by another $100. That would take my $400 budget to $300. Giving me and additional $600 towards debt for this year.
3. Look for other ways to earn money. I’ve been considering making wigs, and definitely need to get some affiliate links and monetize the blog. However, if I can bring in an additional $500/month that would unquestionably get me to my final goal sooner.
By the end of July I will finalize what I will do, and share in a future post. I’ll also breakdown what it will take for me to actually reach the half way goal by December 2017. This journey may not be a straight line but I’m headed in the right direction towards the goal.
Please share one of your yearly goals, and how its coming along. Always feel free to send me an email if you ever want to connect firstname.lastname@example.org.
